SB 1.14.23–24
अधोवदनमब्बिन्दून्सृजन्तं नयनाब्जयोः ॥ २३ ॥
विलोक्योद्विग्नहृदयो विच्छायमनुजं नृपः ।
पृच्छति स्म सुहृन्मध्ये संस्मरन्नारदेरितम् ॥ २४ ॥
adho-vadanam ab-bindūn sṛjantaṁ nayanābjayoḥ
vilokyodvigna-hṛdayo vicchāyam anujaṁ nṛpaḥ
pṛcchati sma suhṛn madhye saṁsmaran nāraderitam
Synonyms
vilokya — seeing [nirīkṣya78]; anujam — his younger brother [Arjuna]; nipatitam — bowing down; pādayoḥ — at his feet; ayathā-pūrvam āturam — with unprecedented dejection [duḥkhitam79]; adhaḥ-vadanam — his face downcast [avāṅ-mukham]; ap-bindūn — teardrops [aśrūṇi80]; sṛjantam — trickling; nayana-abjayoḥ — from his lotus-like eyes; vicchāyam — [and] pale of appearance [vigata-kāntim]; nṛpaḥ — the king; udvigna-hṛdayaḥ — whose heart trembled with anxiety [(kampitaṁ hṛdayam); or whose heart was filled with trepidation (bhītaṁ hṛdayam)81]; pṛcchati sma — questioned; tam — him; suhṛt madhye — in the midst of his relatives; saṁsmaran — [while] recollecting; [vacanam82] īritam — [the words] spoken; nārada — [by] Nārada [in his statement, “As long as Bhagavān remains here on earth, you too should await that moment” (tāvad yūyam apekṣadhvam bhaved yāvad iheśvaraḥ, SB 1.13.49)].
Translation
Seeing his younger brother Arjuna bowing down at his feet with unprecedented dejection, his face downcast, teardrops trickling from his lotus-like eyes, and pale of appearance, the king, whose heart trembled with anxiety, questioned him in the midst of his relatives, while recollecting the words spoken by Nārada.
