निवर्तिताखिलाहार आस्ते स्थाणुरिवाचलः ॥ ५५ ॥
nivartitākhilāhāra āste sthāṇur ivācalaḥ
Synonyms
[The stage of samādhi in which the outward flow of mental impressions attains cessation (vyuthāna-abhāva) is now described.189]; dhvasta — having destroyed; udarkaḥ — the subsequent effects [(uttara-phala), the mind’s subconscious habit patterns (vāsanās)]; māyā-guṇa — [of] the guṇas of māyā; niruddha — restrained; karaṇa-āśayaḥ — the senses and mind [cakṣurādīny āśayo manaś ca]; nivartita — [and] desisted; akhila — [from] all; āhāraḥ — sense pleasures [from the appropriation of sense objects with the sense faculties (bhojyam indriyair viṣayāharaṇam)]; [adhunā190] āste — Dhṛtarāṣṭra now sits [āsiṣyate191]; acalaḥ — motionless; iva — like; sthāṇuḥ — a pillar.
Translation
Having destroyed the subsequent effects of the guṇas of māyā, restrained the senses and mind, and desisted from all sense pleasures, Dhṛtarāṣṭra now sits motionless like a pillar.
