गृहं प्रविष्टो गुरुवन्दनाय न चापश्यत्पितरौ सौबलीं च ॥ ३० ॥
gṛhaṁ praviṣṭo guru-vandanāya na cāpaśyat pitarau saubalīṁ ca
Synonyms
kṛta — after performing; maitraḥ — [his] morning prayers to the mitra-devatās [mitra-daivatyaṁ sandhyā-vandanam101]; huta-agniḥ — [and] a fire sacrifice; ajāta śatruḥ — King Yudhiṣṭhira, whose enemy was never born; natvā — honored [saṁpūjya]; viprān — the brāhmaṇas; tila-go-bhūmi-rukmaiḥ — with sesame seeds, cows, land, and gold; praviṣṭaḥ — [and then] entered; [dhṛtarā-ṣṭrasya102] gṛham — the residence [of Dhṛtarāṣṭra]; guru-vandanāya — to pay respect to his elders; na ca apaśyat — however, he did not see; pitarau — his two uncles [Vidura and Dhṛtarāṣṭra]; ca — or; saubalīm — his aunt, Gāndhārī.
Translation
After performing his morning prayers to the mitra-devatās and a fire sacrifice, King Yudhiṣṭhira, whose enemy was never born, honored the brāhmaṇas with sesame seeds, cows, land, and gold, and then entered the residence of Dhṛtarāṣṭra to pay respect to his elders. However, he did not see his two uncles [Vidura and Dhṛtarāṣṭra] or his aunt Gāndhārī.
