तीर्थीकुर्वन्ति तीर्थानि स्वान्तःस्थेन गदाभृता ॥ १० ॥
tīrthī-kurvanti tīrthāni svāntaḥ-sthena gadābhṛtā
Synonyms
[And your visiting the holy places is not out of self-interest but to benefit these sacred sites (bhavatāñ ca tīrthāṭanaṁ na svārthaṁ kintu tīrthānugrahārtham). This is expressed in the following verse (ity āha bhavad-vidhā iti).22]; vibho — O mighty one [meaning you who are endowed with all competence (sarva-samartha)23]; bhāgavatāḥ — exalted devotees; vidhāḥ — like; bhavat — you; svayam — [who are] themselves; tīrtha-bhūtāḥ — the very embodiment of the sacred places [implying that for them, self-purification cannot be the intent of their visiting the holy places (atas tīrtha-yātrā-kṛtaṁ pavitratvaṁ nāpekṣitam)24]; tīrthī-kurvanti — sanctify; tīrthāni — the sacred places [meaning that the saints purify anew the sacred places (santaḥ punas tīrthī-kurvanti), which become polluted by contact with those who are tainted by impurities (malina-jana-samparkeṇa tīrthāni atīrthāni santi)25]; gadā-bhṛtā — because He who wields the mace [Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa]; sva-antaḥ-sthena — is firmly situated in their hearts [(svāntaṁ manaḥ tatra sthena), or more specifically, in the hearts of those who are His very own (svasyāntasthitena vā)26].
Translation
O mighty one, exalted devotees like you, who are themselves the very embodiment of the sacred places, sanctify the sacred places, because He who wields the mace [Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa] is firmly situated in their hearts.
