ददर्श पुरुषं कञ्चिद्दह्यमानोऽस्त्रतेजसा ॥ ७ ॥
dadarśa puruṣaṁ kaṣcid dahyamāno’stra-tejasā
Synonyms
bhṛgu-nandana — O descendent of Bhṛgu [Śaunaka]; tadā — at that time; garbha-gataḥ — while situated in the womb; mātuḥ — of his mother; dahyamānaḥ — [and] being scorched; tejasā — by the fire; astra — [of] the brahmāstra; saḥ vīraḥ — that hero [(Parīkṣit);13 the word vīraḥ here implies that by his own natural prowess alone (svābhāvika-vīratvena eva), he could have counteracted the fire of the brahmāstra (astra-tejasas tasmād abibhyat)14]; dadarśa — saw; kaṣcit puruṣam — some otherworldly person [(alaukikaṁ puruṣam);15 meaning that his mind and eyes had as their very first object of perception the form of Bhagavān (tan-mano-nayanābhyāṁ bhagavad-rūpe eva sva-viṣaya-grahaṇārambhaḥ prathamataḥ kṛtaḥ)16].
Translation
O descendent of Bhṛgu [Śaunaka], at that time, while situated in the womb of his mother and being scorched by the fire of the brahmāstra, that hero [Parīkṣit] saw some otherworldly person.
