SB 1.12.2–3

तस्य जन्म महाबुद्धेः कर्माणि च महात्मनः ।
निधनं च यथैवासीत्स प्रेत्य गतवान्यथा ॥ २ ॥
तदिदं श्रोतुमिच्छामो गदितुं यदि मन्यसे ।
ब्रूहि नः श्रद्दधानानां यस्य ज्ञानमदाच्छुकः ॥ ३ ॥
tasya janma mahā-buddheḥ karmāṇi ca mahātmanaḥ
nidhanaṁ ca yathaivāsīt sa pretya gatavān yathā
tad idaṁ śrotum icchāmo gadituṁ yadi manyase
brūhi naḥ śraddadhānānāṁ yasya jñānam adāc chukaḥ

Synonyms

yathā eva — in what exact manner; janma — [did] the birth; karmāṇi ca — deeds; nidhanam ca — and death [maraṇam3]; tasya mahā-buddheḥ — of that highly enlightened [or supremely discerning (parama-vivekinaḥ)]; mahā-ātmanaḥ — illustrious being [meaning he whose mind (ātmā yasya) was immersed in the Supreme (mahati), Śrī Kṛṣṇa]; āsīt — occur; yathā — [and] in what manner; pretya — on relinquishing his body [dehaṁ tyaktvā4]; saḥ — [did] he; gatavān — attain his ultimate destination [yāṁ gatiṁ prāptavān]; icchāmaḥ — we wish; śrotum — to hear; tat idam — all this [idaṁ sarvam]; [therefore (ataḥ)]; yadi — if; [tvam] manyase — you think; gaditum — [it proper] to disclose [kathituṁ yuktam]; [then (tarhi)]; [kṛpayā] brūhi — kindly narrate; naḥ — to us [asmākam]; śraddadhānānām — who are full of faith [indicating their eligibility to hear (śravane svādhikāraṁ sūcayan)]; [the accounts]; yasya — of him; [to whom]; śukaḥ — Śuka; adāt — imparted [upadiṣṭavān]; jñānam — transcendental knowledge [implying that his liberation from worldly existence was beyond doubt (tasya saṁsāra-vimuktau tu na sandeha)].

Translation

In what exact manner did the birth, deeds, and death of that highly enlightened, illustrious being occur, and in what manner on relinquishing his body did he attain his ultimate destination? We wish to hear all this. Therefore, if you think it proper to disclose, kindly narrate to us, who are full of faith, the accounts of him to whom Śuka imparted transcendental knowledge.
