तत्राब्दकोटिप्रतिमः क्षणो भवेद्रविं विनाक्ष्णोरिव नस्तवाच्युत ॥ ९ ॥
kurūn madhūn vātha suhṛd-didṛkṣayā
tatrābda-koṭi-pratimaḥ kṣaṇo bhaved
raviṁ vinākṣṇor iva nas tavācyuta
Synonyms
bho — O; ambuja-akṣa — Lotus-eyed Lord [indicating that by His merciful glance alone (kṛpā-dṛṣṭyaiva), He dissipates the heat of saṁsāra, as lotuses soothe the heat of the sun31]; acyuta — O Infallible One [indicating His grace upon His devotees (bhakta-vātsalyam) by virtue of which His devotees never go astray (bhaktā na cyavanti)32]; yarhi — whenever [yadā33]; [You (bhavān)]; apasasāra — go away [neglecting us (asmān anādṛtya)]; suhṛt-didṛkṣayā — to see Your relatives; kurūn — the Kurus [the residents of Hastināpura]; athavā — or; madhūn — those of Mathurā; tatra — at such times [tadā]; [upon not seeing You (tvām apaśyatām)34]; kṣaṇaḥ — [even] a single moment [kṣaṇam api35]; bhavet — becomes; pratimaḥ — like [tulyaḥ36]; abda-koṭi — millions of years; naḥ — to us [asmākam]; tava — [who are] Yours [tvadīyānām]; akṣṇoḥ iva — [and we become] like eyes; vinā — deprived of; ravim — the sun [as though stricken by blindness (āndhyād akṣṇor yathā)].
Translation
O Lotus-eyed Lord! O Infallible One! Whenever You go away to see Your relatives, the residents of Hastināpura or those of Mathurā, at such times even a single moment appears like millions of years to us, who belong to You, and we become like eyes deprived of sunlight.
