परेभ्यः शङ्कितः स्नेहात्प्रायुङ्क्त चतुरङ्गिणीम् ॥ ३२ ॥
parebhyaḥ śaṅkitaḥ snehāt prāyuṅkta catur-aṅgiṇīm
Synonyms
śaṅkitaḥ — being apprehensive; parebhyaḥ — from the threat of others [from the threat of enemies (śatrubhyaḥ)100]; ajāta-śatruḥ [api101] — [even] King Yudhiṣṭhira, whose enemy had never been born; prāyuṅkta — sent; pṛtanām — an army [senām]; catuḥ-aṅginīm — of four military divisions, consisting of elephants, cavalry, chariots, and infantry [hastāśva-ratha-pādātaṁ senāṅgaṁ syāc catur-vidham]; gopīthāya — for the protection [rakṣaṇāya]; madhu-dviṣaḥ [api102] — [even] of Kṛṣṇa Himself, the enemy of Madhu; snehāt — [doing so] out of affection.
Translation
Being apprehensive from the threat of enemies, even King Yudhiṣṭhira, whose enemy had never been born, sent an army of four military divisions, consisting of elephants, cavalry, chariots, and infantry, for the protection even of Kṛṣṇa Himself, the enemy of Madhu, doing so out of affection.
