SB 1.10.24
य एक ईशो जगदात्मलीलया सृजत्यवत्यत्ति न तत्र सज्जते ॥ २४ ॥
vedeṣu guhyeṣu ca guhya-vādibhiḥ
ya eka īśo jagad-ātma-līlayā
sṛjaty avaty atti na tatra sajjate
Synonyms
sakhi — O my friend; saḥ vai — He indeed [the Primeval Puruṣa]; ayam — is this [Śrī Kṛṣṇa, Arjuna’s friend in human form (arjunasya-sakhā narā-kṛtiḥ)73]; sat-kathaḥ — [whose] sacred stories; anugīta — are repeatedly praised; vedeṣu — in the Vedas; ca — and; guhyeṣu — in other esoteric scriptures [rahasyāgameṣu74]; guhya-vādibhiḥ — by sages who are well versed in confidential topics [rahasya-nirūpakaiḥ75]; yaḥ — [and] who; ekaḥ — as one alone; īśaḥ — the Supreme Immanent Self [as Īśvara, and not in this form as Sākṣāt Bhagavān (yaḥ khalu eka eva īśaḥ īśvaraḥ san na tu sākṣād etad rūpa ity arthaḥ)76]; sṛjati — evolves [utpādayati77]; avati — sustains [rakṣati]; atti — [and] dissolves [saṁharati]; jagat — the cosmos; ātma-līlayā — as a matter of His cosmic play [effortlessly, merely by His will (anāyāsena saṅkalpa-mātreṇa)]; na sajjate — without becoming identified or attached; tatra — to it [to the world (jagati), because His desires are always already fulfilled (āpta-kāmatvāt)78].
Translation
O my friend, He indeed [the Primeval Puruṣa] is this [Śrī Kṛṣṇa], whose sacred stories are repeatedly praised in the Vedas and in other esoteric scriptures by sages who are well versed in confidential topics, and who, as one alone, the Supreme Immanent Self, evolves, sustains, and dissolves the cosmos as a matter of His cosmic play, without becoming identified or attached to it.
