स्थितवति परसैनिकायुरक्ष्णा हृतवति पार्थसखे रतिर्ममास्तु ॥ ३५ ॥
nija-parayor balayo rathaṁ niveśya
sthitavati para-sainikāyur akṣṇā
hṛtavati pārtha-sakhe ratir mamāstu
Synonyms
astu — may; ratiḥ — love; mama — be mine; pārtha-sakhe — for Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the friend of Arjuna; niśamya — [who] upon hearing [śrutvā113]; sakhi-vaco — the request of His friend, Arjuna [sakhyur arjunasya vacaḥ114]; sapadi — at once [tat-kṣaṇam eva]; niveśya — placed [sthāpayitvā115]; ratham — the chariot; madhye — between [sthite]; balayoḥ — the two armies [sainyayoḥ]; nija-parayoḥ — of the Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas [sva-parayor pāṇḍava-kauravayoḥ116]; sthitavati — [and] while situated there [tatra sthitvā]; hṛtavati — stole away; āyuḥ — the life [jīvana-lakṣaṇam117]; para-sainika — of the opposing army [of Duryodhana (duryodhanasya sainikānām)]; akṣṇā — merely by His glance [(akṣṇaiva dṛṣṭi-mātreṇaiva);118 in the form of time (kāla-dṛṣṭyā) and thus secured Arjuna’s victory (arjunasya jayaṁ kṛtavati)].
Translation
May I be granted love for Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the friend of Arjuna, who, upon hearing the request of His friend, at once placed the chariot between the two armies of the Pāṇḍavas and Kauravas and, while situated there, stole away the life of the opposing army merely by His glance.
