प्राहार्जुनं प्रकुपितो भगवानम्बुजेक्षणः ॥ ३४ ॥
prāhārjunaṁ prakupito bhagavān ambujekṣaṇaḥ
Synonyms
[To proclaim to the world Arjuna’s utter fixity in dharma (arjunasya loke dharma-niṣṭhā-khyāpanāya), in spite of the latter’s being beset with sorrow and anger (śoka-roṣādi-yuktasyāpy), Kṛṣṇa, in a vehement tone, speaks five verses, following this introductory one (prakarṣeṇāha pañca-ślokīm).137]; balāt baddhvā — having forcibly bound; ripum — the enemy; rajjvā — with a rope; ninīṣantam — [Arjuna] planned to take him [netum icchantam138]; śibirāya — to the royal military encampment [rāja-niveṣāya]; [seeing this]; ambuja-īkṣaṇaḥ — the lotus-eyed; bhagavān — Bhagavān; prakupitaḥ — full of rage [as if full of rage (prakupita iveti); here, since it is said that Kṛṣṇa had lotus-eyes and not eyes red with anger (aruṇekṣaṇa ity anuktvā ambujekṣaṇa ity ukte), it is to be understood that His anger was merely outward (bahir eva prakupita iti gamyate)139]; prāha — spoke as follows; arjunam — to Arjuna.
Translation
Having forcibly bound the enemy with a rope, Arjuna planned to take him to the royal military encampment. Seeing this, the lotus-eyed Bhagavān, full of rage, spoke to Arjuna as follows.
