दह्यमानाः प्रजाः सर्वाः सांवर्तकममंसत ॥ ३१ ॥
dahyamānāḥ prajāḥ sarvāḥ sāṁvartakam amaṁsata
Synonyms
dṛṣṭvā — seeing; tu — however; mahat — the ominous; astra-tejaḥ — missile fire; tayoḥ — of the two brahmāstras [of Aśvatthāmā and Arjuna (drauṇī-phālguṇayoḥ)121]; pradahat — burning [here meaning, beginning to burn (dagdhum ārabhamāṇam)122]; trīn — the three; lokān — worlds; sarvāḥ — all; prajāḥ — the people; dahyamānāḥ — who were being scorched by that fire [(tena); who were beginning to be scorched (dagdhum ārabhyamāṇāḥ)123]; amaṁsata — concluded [menire]; sāṁvartakam — [that it must be] the fire of cosmic dissolution [pralayāgnim].
Translation
Seeing, however, the ominous missile fire of the two brahmāstras burning the three worlds, all the people who were being scorched by that fire concluded that it must be the fire of cosmic dissolution.
