मतिर्मयि निबद्धेयं न विपद्येत कर्हिचित् ।
प्रजासर्गनिरोधेऽपि स्मृतिश्च मदनुग्रहात् ॥ २५ ॥
matir mayi nibaddheyaṁ na vipadyeta karhicit
prajā-sarga-nirodhe’pi smṛtiś ca mad-anugrahāt

Synonyms

[But if in the interim this mati is lost, what then should be done? To dispel this doubt, Bhagavān speaks the following verse (nanu yady antaraiva sā naśyet tarhi kiṁ kartavyaṁ tatrāha matir mayīti).103]; mat-anugrahāt — by My grace; iyam — this; matiḥ — devotional regard; [of yours (tava)104]; nibaddhā — [that is] completely bound; mayi — to Me; na vipadyeta — will never be lost [or destroyed (na vinaśyeta);105 precisely because it is bound to Me, meaning that it is established on the basis of divine love for Me (yato mayi nibaddhā sthāpitā premṇaivety arthaḥ), and since I am eternal, this mati is indeed also eternal (mama nityatvāt matir api nityaivety arthaḥ)106]; karhicit — at any time; smṛtiḥ ca — and neither will [your] remembrance [pertaining to the present life, not to speak of your devotional regard (matir iti kiṁ vaktavyaṁ smṛtiś caitaj janma viṣayā)107]; nirodhe api — not even during the dissolution [saṁhāre’pi108]; prajā-sarga — [of] the created world of living beings [prajā-sargasya109]; [the second line of this verse answers Vyāsa’s question from verse 4 as to how Nārada’s memory of his past life was not destroyed by time (anenaiva prāk-kāla-viṣayāṁ te smṛtiṁ kālaḥ kathaṁ na khaṇḍitavān iti praśnasyottaraṁ dattam iti jñeyam)110].

Translation

By My grace, this devotional regard of yours that is completely bound to Me will never be lost at any time, and neither will your remembrance [pertaining to the present life], not even during the dissolution of the created world of living beings.
