व्यास उवाच
भिक्षुभिर्विप्रवसिते विज्ञानादेष्टृभिस्तव ।
वर्तमानो वयस्याद्ये ततः किमकरोद्भवान् ॥ २ ॥
vyāsa uvāca
bhikṣubhir vipravasite vijñānādeṣṭṛbhis tava
vartamāno vayasy ādye tataḥ kim akarod bhavān

Synonyms

vyāsaḥ — Śrī Vyāsa; uvāca — inquired; tataḥ — thereafter [tad-anantaram4]; vipravasite — upon the departure to distant lands [dūra-deśa-gamane kṛte5]; bhikṣubhiḥ — by the mendicants [sannyāsibhiḥ6]; tava vijñāna-ādeṣṭṛbhiḥ — who were your preceptors in transcendental knowledge; kim — what; bhavān — [did] you; akarot — do; vartamānaḥ — being at that time; ādye — in the beginning; vayasi — [of] childhood.

Translation

Śrī Vyāsa inquired: Thereafter, when the mendicants who were your preceptors in transcendental knowledge had departed for distant lands, what did you do, being a mere child at that time?
