अनुग्रहं मन्यमानः प्रातिष्ठं दिशमुत्तराम् ॥ १० ॥
anugrahaṁ manyamānaḥ prātiṣṭhaṁ diśam uttarām
Synonyms
tadā — at that time; manyamānaḥ — considering; tat — that [the death of my mother (mātur maraṇam)39]; anugraham — [as] the grace [in the form of the removal of the obstacle to the bliss of Bhagavān’s sacred service (bhagavad-bhajanānanda-pratibandhaka-nivṛtti-rūpatvāt)40]; īśasya — of Īśvara; abhīpsataḥ — who intends; śam — the well-being [kalyāṇam]; bhaktānām — of His devotees; aham — I; prātiṣṭham — departed [prasthito’smi]; uttarām — for the northern; diśam — direction [the region recommended in the following Śruti statement, “This indeed is the direction of peace for the gods and human beings” (eṣā vai deva-manuṣyāṇāṁ śāntā dig ity śruteḥ)41].
Translation
At that time, considering this as the grace of Īśvara, who intends the well-being of His devotees, I departed for the northern direction [as recommended in scripture].
