श्रीनारद उवाच
भवतानुदितप्रायं यशो भगवतोऽमलम् ।
येनैवासौ न तुष्येत मन्ये तद्दर्शनं खिलम् ॥ ८ ॥
śrī-nārada uvāca
bhavatānudita-prāyaṁ yaśo bhagavato’malam
yenaivāsau na tuṣyeta manye tad darśanaṁ khilam

Synonyms

[In the next two verses, Nārada specifies the reason for Vyāsa’s dissatisfaction (asantoṣa-hetum āha bhavateti dvābhyām).33]; śrī-nāradaḥ — Śrī Nārada; uvāca — said; amalam — the immaculate; yaśaḥ — glories [meaning the divine perfections intrinsic to Bhagavān’s essential being (bhagavat-svarūpasyotkarṣaḥ), and in particular, His divine play (tasya līlā) and His devotion (bhaktiś ca), which illuminate all His perfections (sarvotkarṣa-dyotinī)34]; bhagavataḥ — of Bhagavān; anudita-prāyam — have been virtually unmentioned [anukta-prāyam35]; bhavatā — by you; manye — I consider; khilam — as deficient [(nyūnam), or as incomplete, even brahma-jñāna, if devoid of the delineation of Bhagavān’s glories (yaśo varṇanābhāva-mayena brahma-jñānenāpi), because it entails the nondisclosure of the Complete Reality designated as Bhagavān (bhagavadākhya pūrṇa-tattvāvirbhāvābhāvāt)36]; tat eva — that particular; darśanam — philosophical view [or knowledge system (jñānam)]; yena — by [i.e., from] which; asau — He [Bhagavān]; na tuṣyeta — derives no pleasure.

Translation

Śrī Nārada said: The immaculate glories of Bhagavān have been virtually unmentioned by you. I consider as deficient any philosophical view (darśana) from which Bhagavān derives no pleasure.
