yato jagat-sthāna-nirodha-sambhavāḥ
tad dhi svayaṁ veda bhavāṁs tathāpi te
prādeśa-mātraṁ bhavataḥ pradarśitam
Synonyms
idam — this; viśvam — cosmos; hi — [is] indeed; bhagavān iva — just like Bhagavān [the emphatic particle hi here implies authentication of this fact from Śruti statements, such as, “all this [visible world] is indeed Brahman” (sarvaṁ kalv idaṁ brahmety ādi śruti-pramāṇaṁ sucitam);73 the cosmos is depicted as such only because it is a minute portion of Bhagavān, being evolved from Him as an effect of His potency (viśvasya tat-kārya-rūpatvāt kenacid aṁśenaiva tad-rūptavaṁ nirūpyate)74]; itaraḥ — [yet He is] distinct from it [(sa tu anyasmād itaraḥ), meaning that the cosmos is not separate from Īśvara, whereas Īśvara is distinct from the cosmos (īśvarāt prapañco na pṛthak īśvaras tu prapañcāt pṛthag ity arthaḥ)]; [in this regard, the reason is as follows (tatra hetuḥ)]; yataḥ — being that from which [since Bhagavān is the root cause out of which (bhagavato hetoḥ)]; sthāna — the sustenance; nirodha — dissolution; sambhavāḥ — [and] evolution; jagat — [of] the world; [come about (bhavanti)]; bhavān — you; svayam — yourself; veda — certainly know; tat hi — all this; tathā api — yet; pradarśitam — it has been pointed out; te bhavataḥ — to you; [by me (mayā)75]; prādeśa-mātram — merely as an indication [of the complete truth by reference to a single aspect (ekadeśa-mātram)].
Translation
This cosmos is indeed just like Bhagavān, yet He is distinct from it, being that from which the sustenance, dissolution, and evolution of the world come about. You yourself certainly know all this, yet I have pointed it out to you merely as an indication [of the complete truth].
