पाराशर्य महाभाग भवतः कच्चिदात्मना ।
परितुष्यति शारीर आत्मा मानस एव वा ॥ २ ॥
pārāśarya mahā-bhāga bhavataḥ kaccid ātmanā
parituṣyati śārīra ātmā mānasa eva vā
Synonyms
nāradaḥ — Śrī Nārada; uvāca — said; mahā-bhāga — O highly fortunate one; pārāśarya — O son of Parāśara [both addresses imply that despondency was not at all appropriate for Vyāsa (tavaivaṁ viṣādo na yukta iti sūcayati)3]; kaccit — is [kim4]; bhavataḥ — your; śārīraḥ — physiological self [śārīrābhimānī ātmā5]; mānasaḥ eva vā — or indeed, your psychological [mano’bhimānī]; ātmā — self; parituṣyati — satisfied [or not (no’vā)]; ātmanā — by its respective physical and mental engagements [tena śarīreṇa tena manasā].
Translation
Śrī Nārada said: O highly fortunate one, O son of Parāśara [Vyāsa], is your physiological self, or indeed, your psychological self satisfied [or not], by its respective physical and mental engagements?
