न कर्हिचित्क्वापि च दुःस्थिता मतिर्लभेत वाताहतनौरिवास्पदम् ॥ १४ ॥
pṛthag dṛśas tat-kṛta-rūpa-nāmabhiḥ
na karhicit kvāpi ca duḥsthitā matir
labheta vātāhata-naur ivāspadam
Synonyms
matiḥ — the mind; dṛśaḥ — of one whose vision; pṛthak — [is] diverted; tataḥ — from that [from the divine acts of Bhagavān Urukrama (urukrama-viceṣṭitāt);56 meaning one whose vision is fixed only on other objects (pṛthag-vastuny eva dṛk dṛṣṭi-tātparyaṁ yasya tasya)57]; [ata eva] duḥsthitā — [and which is thus] unsettled [anavasthitā]; nāma-rūpabhiḥ — by the names and forms; tat-kṛta — arising out of [tat-kṛtaiḥ sphuritaiḥ]; vivakṣataḥ — [his] intent to speak [vaktum icchataḥ]; yat kiñcana — [about] some other topic [arthāntaram]; anyathā — in a disparate manner [anya prakāreṇa]; na karhicit — can never [na kadācit]; labheta — obtain; āspadam — a firm standing [sthānam]; kvāpi ca — anywhere at all [in any topic (viṣaye)]; nauḥ iva — like a boat; āhata — tossed [or whirled about (āghūrṇitā)]; vāta — [by] the wind.
Translation
The mind of one whose vision is diverted from the divine acts of Bhagavān Urukrama and which is thus unsettled by the names and forms arising out of his intent to speak about some other topic in a disparate manner, can never obtain a firm standing anywhere at all, like a boat tossed by the wind.
