द्वापरे समनुप्राप्ते तृतीये युगपर्यये ।
जातः पराशराद्योगी वासव्यां कलया हरेः ॥ १४ ॥
dvāpare samanuprāpte tṛtīye yuga-paryaye
jātaḥ parāśarād yogī vāsavyāṁ kalayā hareḥ

[In response to Śaunaka’s questions, beginning with, “In which yuga was the Bhāgavata manifested?” (kasmin yuge ityādi praśnānām, from SB 1.4.3 onward), Sūta responds by first relating the details of Vyāsa’s appearance (vyāsa-janma-kathana pūrvakam uttaram āha).61]; sūtaḥ — Śrī Sūta; uvāca — said; samanuprāpte — at the end [paryavasāne62]; dvāpare — in [i.e., of] Dvāparayuga [to which it may be asked, “When exactly?” (kadety apekṣayam āha)]; tṛtīye yuga-paryaye — at the conclusion of the third yuga in the succession of four yugas [tṛtīye’sya-yugasya-paryāye’vasāne63]; yogī — the self-realized yogī [(jñānī), Vyāsa)]; kalayā — [who was] a partial manifestation [of the potency of enlightened awareness (jñānasya-kalayā aṁśena)64]; hareḥ — of Hari [Śrī Kṛṣṇa]; jātaḥ — was born [or appeared (avatīrṇaḥ)65]; parāśarāt — from the sage Parāśara; vāsavyām — in [the womb of] Vāsavī [the daughter of Uparicara Vasu, Satyavatī (vasor uparicarasya putryāṁ satyavatyām)66].
Translation
Śrī Sūta said: At the end of Dvāparayuga, at the conclusion of the third yuga in the succession of four yugas, the self-realized yogī [Vyāsa], who was a partial manifestation of Hari [Śrī Kṛṣṇa], was born from the sage Parāśara in the womb of Vāsavī [Satyavatī].
