सदसद्रूपया चासौ गुणमय्यागुणो विभुः ॥ ३० ॥
sad-asad-rūpayā cāsau guṇamayyāguṇo vibhuḥ
Synonyms
[In the following four verses (caturbhiḥ etair eva ślokaiḥ), Sūta answers the sages’ fourth question regarding the munificent acts of Bhagavān (udārāṇi karmāṇi, SB 1.1.17).137]; saḥ — He; asau eva — this very same; bhagavān — Bhagavān [Vāsudeva138]; aguṇaḥ [api] — [although] beyond the material guṇas [although nirguṇa by His very nature (svato nirguṇo’pi san)]; vibhuḥ — [and] all-pervading; sasarja — evolved; idam — this [cosmos (viśvam)139]; agre — in the beginning [at the onset of creation (sṛṣṭyādau)140]; ātma-māyayā — through His own extrinsic potency [known as prakṛti (svasya māyayā … prakṛtyā)141]; guṇa-mayyā — [which is] constituted of the [three] guṇas [tri-guṇātmikayā142]; sat-asat-rūpayā — [and whose nature is] of the form of cause and effect [kārya-kāraṇātmikayā].
Translation
He, this very same Bhagavān [Vāsudeva], although beyond the material guṇas and all-pervading, evolved this cosmos in the beginning through His own extrinsic potency (māyā), which is constituted of the three guṇas and whose nature is ingrained in the interplay of cause and effect.
