विज्ञापयामास विविक्तचेता उपस्थितोऽग्रेऽभिगृहीतपाणिः ॥ १२ ॥
kṛta-praṇāmaḥ sva-cikīrṣitaṁ yat
vijñāpayām āsa vivikta-cetā
upasthito’gre’bhigṛhīta-pāṇiḥ

atha — then; kṛta-praṇāmaḥ — after bowing down; bhūyaḥ — once again [punar api87]; teṣu — to them [the sages (satsu)]; sukha — [who were now] comfortably; upaviṣṭeṣu — seated; [the king (rājā)]; vivikta-cetāḥ — whose mind was completely pure [(śuddhaṁ ceto yasya);88 or whose mind was endowed with acute discernment (viveka-yuktaṁ ceto yasya)]; upasthitaḥ — stood [tiṣṭhan]; agre — before them [teṣāṁ samīpe]; abhigṛhīta-pāṇiḥ — [with] joined palms [(saṁyojitau pāṇi yena saḥ);89 (baddhāñjaliḥ)]; vijñāpayāmāsa — [and] informed them; yat — [of] what; sva-cikīrṣitam — he intended to do [(kartum iṣṭam); of his intention to fast until death and other proceedings (prāyopaveṣādi), submitting for their appraisal whether or not this was appropriate (yuktam ayuktaṁ veti vijñāpayāmāsa);90 it should be understood that Parīkṣit’s primary intention, of which he informed the sages, is expressed further ahead (particularly in verse 15) (vijñāpayāmāseti vakṣyamānam ity eva jñeyam)91].
Translation
Then, after bowing down once again to the sages, who were now comfortably seated, the king, whose mind was completely pure, stood before them with joined palms and informed them of what he intended to do.
