SB 1.18.8

किं नु बालेषु शूरेण कलिना धीरभीरुणा ।
अप्रमत्तः प्रमत्तेषु यो वृको नृषु वर्तते ॥ ८ ॥
kiṁ nu bāleṣu śūreṇa kalinā dhīra-bhīruṇā
apramattaḥ pramatteṣu yo vṛko nṛṣu vartate

Synonyms

[moreover (kiṁ ca)58]; kim nu — of what ultimate significance [(kiṁ prayojanam);59 as something objectionable or unwanted (aniṣṭam)60]; kalinā — [is] Kali; [of no significance at all (na kim api)]; [since (yataḥ)]; śūreṇa — [he acts] boldly; bāleṣu — in front of the undiscerning [(avivekeṣu); (adhīreṣu);61 or in front of those who are devoid of awareness of the Absolute Truth (atattvajñeṣu)62]; [but (tu)63]; bhīruṇā — timidly; dhīra — [before] the discerning [(vivekeṣu) or before the devotees (bhakta-janeṣu); meaning those who have attained stability in meditation on the Supreme Being (parama-puruṣa-dhyāne labdha-sthairyeṣu)64]; vṛkaḥ — [like] a wolf [lurking among sheep (avīṣu vṛka iva vartate)65]; yaḥ — he [Kali66]; vartate — thrives [or subsists]; apramattaḥ — vigilantly [sāvadhānaḥ san67]; pramatteṣu [eva68] — [only] among heedless [anavahiteṣu69]; nṛṣu — human beings.

Translation

Moreover, of what ultimate significance is Kali, who acts boldly in front of the undiscerning but timidly before the discerning? Like a wolf lurking among sheep, he thrives vigilantly only among heedless human beings.
