तदा हि चौरप्रचुरो विनङ्क्ष्यत्यरक्ष्यमाणोऽविवरूथवत्क्षणात् ॥ ४३ ॥
rathāṅga-pāṇāv ayam aṅga lokaḥ
tadā hi caura-pracuro vinaṅkṣyaty
arakṣyamāṇo’vi-varūtha-vat kṣaṇāt
Synonyms
aṅga — my dear son [he putra345]; [when (yadā hi)346]; ratha-aṅga-pāṇau — the wielder of the disc weapon [Viṣṇu]; nara-deva-nāmni — who bears the title of “king” [(nara-devākhye); by virtue of His presence within the king as the Supreme Immanent Self (antaryāmitvāt)347]; alakṣyamāṇe — disappears [(adṛṣyamāne);348 withdraws His presence (avidyamāne sati); or ascends to the world beyond (para-lokaṁ gate)349]; tadā hi — immediately thereupon [tadaiva350]; ayam — this; lokaḥ — world; pracuraḥ — [will] abound [bhūyiṣṭhaḥ san]; caura — [with] thieves; vinaṅkṣyati — [and] be destroyed [naṣṭo bhaviṣyati]; kṣaṇāt — instantly [in a moment (kṣaṇa-mātreṇa)]; avi-varūtha-vat — like a flock of sheep [meṣa-saṅgha-vat351]; arakṣyamāṇaḥ — that are left unguarded [(apālyamānaḥ);352 from wolves and other predators (vṛkādibhyaḥ)353].
Translation
My dear son, when the wielder of the disc weapon [Viṣṇu], who bears the title of “king,” disappears, immediately thereupon, this world will abound with thieves and be instantly destroyed, like a flock of sheep that are left unguarded.
