SB 1.18.42

न वै नृभिर्नरदेवं पराख्यं सम्मातुमर्हस्यविपक्वबुद्धे ।
यत्तेजसा दुर्विषहेण गुप्ता विन्दन्ति भद्राण्यकुतोभयाः प्रजाः ॥ ४२ ॥
na vai nṛbhir nara-devaṁ parākhyaṁ
sammātum arhasy avipakva-buddhe
yat-tejasā durviṣaheṇa guptā
vindanti bhadrāṇy akutobhayāḥ prajāḥ

Synonyms

avipakva buddhe — O foolish boy [of unripened discernment]; na vai arhasi — it is not at all appropriate for you; sammātum — to equate [to regard as equal (samaṁ draṣṭum)336]; nara-devam — the king [rājānam337]; para-ākhyam — who is celebrated as Viṣṇu Himself [the Supreme Transcendence (paro viṣṇur ity ākhyā khyātir yasya tam);338 or who, as the direct embodiment of Viṣṇu Himself, is partially endowed with all the devas (sarva-devāṁśa-viśiṣṭaṁ sākśād-viṣṇu-mūrtim)]; nṛbhiḥ — with ordinary people [sādhāraṇa-naraiḥ339]; [the reason in this regard is now stated (tatra hetum āha);340 for it is (yataḥ)341]; yat — by his [yasya]; durviṣaheṇa — formidable [impossible to withstand (soḍhum aśakyena)]; tejasā — prowess; prajāḥ — [that] the citizens [including all immobile and mobile living beings (sthāvara-jaṅgamātmikāḥ)]; guptāḥ — protected [rakṣitāḥ342]; akutaḥ-bhayāḥ — [and] thus freed from all fear [ata eva na kutaścid api bhayaṁ yāsāṁ tāḥ343]; vindanti — are able to enjoy [to obtain (prāpnuvanti)]; bhadrāṇi — prosperity [(maṅgalāni) or well-being (sukhāni)344].

Translation

O foolish boy! It is not at all appropriate for you to equate the king, who is celebrated as Viṣṇu Himself [the Supreme Transcendence], with ordinary people, for it is by his formidable prowess that the citizens—protected and thus freed from all fear—are able to enjoy prosperity.
