हरेरुदारं चरितं विशुद्धं शुश्रूषतां नो वितनोतु विद्वन् ॥ १५ ॥
mahattamaikānta-parāyaṇasya
harer udāraṁ caritaṁ viśuddhaṁ
śuśrūṣatāṁ no vitanotu vidvan
Synonyms
vidvan — O vastly learned one [you who are endowed with complete knowledge and realization (sarvathā jñānavān asi), and who are thus eminently eligible to speak (tvaṁ vaktuṁ samartha eva)114]; bhavān — you; vai — indeed; bhagavat-pradhānaḥ — [are] the foremost devotee of Bhagavān [the foremost of devotees who are blessed with supreme fortune (bhagavatāṁ saubhāgyavatāṁ puṁsāṁ madhye pradhānaḥ);115 or you indeed are preeminent among all those who belong to Bhagavān (bhagavadīyānāṁ madhye pradhāno mukhyaḥ);116 or you indeed are the one for whom Bhagavān alone is preeminent, or in other words, supremely worthy of divine service (bhagavān eva pradhāno mukhyatayā sevyo yasya saḥ bhavān)117]; naḥ — among us [asmākaṁ madhye118]; tat — therefore [tasmāt119]; vitanotu — please elaborately describe [vistārayatu, kathayatu120]; naḥ — to us [asmākam121]; śuśrūṣatām — [who are] eager to hear [(śrotum icchatām); signifying their eligibility to hear (sveṣāṁ śravaṇādhikāritvam āhuḥ)122]; udāram — the munificent [which bestow life’s four primary aims, beginning with dharma (dharmādi-catur-vidha-puruṣārtha-pradam)123]; viśuddham — [and] utterly pure [beyond the influence of māyā (māyātītam);124 or which bestow complete purity both to the audience and speakers (śṛṇvatāṁ vadatāṁ ca viśuddhy āvaham)]; caritam — divine acts [ceṣṭitam]; hareḥ — of Bhagavān Hari [Śrī Kṛṣṇa]; ekānta — the exclusive [ekāntataḥ125]; parāyaṇasya — [and] ultimate refuge [the supreme end to be attained (parama-prāpya-phalam)126]; mahat-tama — [of] the most highly evolved devotees [bhagavad-bhaktānām127].
Translation
O vastly learned one, you indeed are the foremost devotee of Bhagavān among us. Therefore, please elaborately describe to us, who are eager to hear, the munificent and utterly pure divine acts of Bhagavān Hari, the exclusive and ultimate refuge of the most highly evolved devotees.
