मा रोदीरम्ब भद्रं ते खलानां मयि शास्तरि ॥ ९ ॥
mā rodīr amba bhadraṁ te khalānāṁ mayi śāstari
Synonyms
[Having spoken thus, the king addressed the bull, who was still grieving (evam ukte punar api śocantaṁ praty āha).49]; saurabheya — O son of Surabhi [bhoḥ surabheḥ putra]; mā anuśucaḥ — do not grieve any longer [śokaṁ mā kuru]; vyetu — abandon [or cast aside (apayātu)]; te — your [tava50]; bhayam — fear; vṛṣalāt — from [i.e., of] the śūdra [who is far inferior to ourselves (asmāc chūdrāt);51 for I shall slay him at once (adhunaivemaṁ hanmīti bhāvaḥ)52]; [and to the cow, he offered the following assurance (gām āśvāsayan āha)53]; amba — O Mother [mātaḥ]; mā rodīḥ — do not weep; [since (ataḥ)]; mayi — I; śāstari — the chastiser [daṇḍa-dhare54]; khalānām — of the wicked [durātmānām]; [am now personally present (jīvati sati)]; te — your [tava55]; bhadram [eva] — well-being [sukham eva56]; [is most certainly assured (bhaviṣyati)].
Translation
[Having spoken thus, the king addressed the bull, who was still grieving:] O son of Surabhi, do not grieve any longer. Abandon your fear of the śūdra. [And to the cow, he offered the following assurance:] O Mother, do not weep. Since I, the chastiser of the wicked, am now personally present, your well-being is most certainly assured.
