प्रतिसन्दध आश्वास्य महीं च समवर्धयत् ॥ ४२ ॥
pratisandadha āśvāsya mahīṁ ca samavardhayat
Synonyms
[King Parīkṣit then]; pratisandadhe — restored [(punaḥ sandadhe) or reconnected (pratisaṁyojayāmāsa), meaning that he reestablished (pravartitavān ity arthaḥ)261]; trīn — the three; naṣṭān — lost [gatān262]; pādān — legs; vṛṣasya — of Dharma in the form of a bull [vṛṣa-rūpasya]; iti — namely; tapaḥ — austerity; śaucam — purity; dayām — [and] compassion; ca — and; āśvāsya — [by] consoling [sāntvayitvā]; mahīm — the Earth goddess; samavardhayat — [he] engendered her prosperity [(pālayāmāsa) by complete propagation of the path of bhakti, by dispelling hereticism, and by agricultural production (samyak bhakti-mārga-pravartanena pākhaṇḍa-mata-dūrīkaraṇena kṛṣyādinā cāvardhayat)].
Translation
King Parīkṣit then restored the three lost legs of Dharma in the form of a bull—namely, austerity, purity, and compassion—and by consoling the Earth goddess, he engendered her prosperity.
