देवान्पितॄनृषीन्साधून्सर्वान्वर्णांस्तथाश्रमान् ॥ ३१ ॥
devān pitṝn ṛṣīn sādhūn sarvān varṇāṁs tathāśramān
Synonyms
amara-uttamam — O [Dharma] foremost of the immortals [he deva-śreṣṭha dharma147]; tathā — being similarly [bereft of His association (ātmānam ity ādāv api tena-rahitam ityādi yojyam)148]; anuśocāmi — I am aggrieved; ātmānam — for myself; ca — and; bhavantam — for you; ca — as well as; devān — for the celestial beings; pitṝn — the forefathers; ṛṣīn — the sages; sādhūn — the virtuous saints and devotees; sarvān — [and] for all people; varṇān — [in] all vocations; āśramān — [and] all developmental stages of life.
Translation
O [Dharma] foremost of the immortals! Being similarly [bereft of His association], I am aggrieved for myself and for you, as well as for the devas, the forefathers, the sages, the virtuous saints and devotees, and for all people in all vocations (varṇas) and all developmental stages of life (āśramas).
