आहो सुरादीन्हृतयज्ञभागान्प्रजा उत स्विन्मघवत्यवर्षति ॥ २० ॥
ātmānaṁ vā vṛṣalair bhokṣyamāṇam
āho surādīn hṛta-yajña-bhāgān
prajā uta svin maghavaty avarṣati
Synonyms
[kim68] śocasi — do you grieve; mā — for me [mām69]; eka-pādam — who am one-legged; nyūnam — being deprived [hīnam70]; [tribhiḥ] pādaiḥ — of the other three legs; vā — or; ātmānam — for yourself; bhokṣyamāṇam — who will be exploited; [hereafter (ūrddham)]; vṛṣalaiḥ — by outcasts [or wicked men (mlecchaiḥ)71]; āho — or [athavā72]; sura-ādīn — for the devas; hṛta — who are deprived; bhāgān — [of] their share; yajña — [of] sacrificial performances; [since yajñas will no longer be performed (yajñādy akaraṇāt)]; uta svit — or [(athavā);73 on the other hand (pakṣāntare)74]; prajāḥ — for the people; [from whom]; maghavati — Indra; avarṣati — withholds rain [(varṣam akurvati), because of the absence of sacrifice (yajñābhāvāt)75].
Translation
Do you grieve for me, who am one-legged, being deprived of the other three legs, or for yourself, who will be exploited hereafter by outcasts, or for the devas, who are deprived of their share of sacrificial performances, or for the people, from whom Indra withholds rain?
