लब्धा सभा मयकृताद्भुतशिल्पमाया दिग्भ्योऽहरन्नृपतयो बलिमध्वरे ते ॥ ८ ॥
indraṁ ca sāmara-gaṇaṁ tarasā vijitya
labdhā sabhā maya-kṛtādbhuta-śilpa-māyā
digbhyo’haran nṛpatayo balim adhvare te
Synonyms
u — it is indeed a wonder [iti vismaye33]; yat sannidhau — [that] in whose [i.e., His] presence [with Him as the cause (hetu-bhūte)34]; aham — I; tarasā — swiftly [and forcefully (vegena balena ca)35]; vijitya — defeated; indram ca — Indra himself; sa-amara-gaṇam — along with the host of immortals; adām — offered [dattavān āsmi]; khāṇḍavam — the Khāṇḍava Forest [Indra’s own forest (indrasya vanam)]; agnaye — to the fire god; labdhā — [and] obtained; sabhā — the assembly hall; maya-kṛtā — built by Maya [who was protected by me in the Khāṇḍava fire (khāṇḍava-dāhe rakṣitena)]; adbhuta-śilpa-māyā — [with] deceptive surfaces embedded in its astonishing architectural design [adbhuta-śilpa-rūpā māyā yāsyām sā]; [additionally, it was in His presence (tathā yat-sannidhau)36]; nṛpatayaḥ — [that] the kings; digbhyaḥ37 — from all quarters; aharan — brought; balim — tributes; te adhvare — to your Rājasūya sacrifice [yāge rājasūye].
Translation
It is indeed a wonder that in His presence, I swiftly defeated Indra himself along with the host of immortals, offered the Khāṇḍava Forest to the fire god, and obtained the assembly hall built by Maya—with deceptive surfaces embedded in its astonishing architectural design. Additionally, it was in His presence that the kings from all quarters brought tributes to your Rājasūya sacrifice.
