शृणोत्यलं स्वस्त्ययनं पवित्रं लब्ध्वा हरौ भक्तिमुपैति सिद्धिम् ॥ ५१ ॥
pāṇḍoḥ sutānām iti samprayāṇam
śṛṇoty alaṁ svastyayanaṁ pavitraṁ
labdhvā harau bhaktim upaiti siddhim
Synonyms
yaḥ — one who; śṛṇoti — hears; śraddhayā — with faith; etat — this account [these three chapters (13–15) of the Bhāgavata (adhyāya-traya)]; alam — [of the] most [atiśayena308]; svastyayanam — auspicious [being the ground of auspiciousness (maṅgalāspadam);309 and conveying auspiciousness (śubhāvaham)310]; pavitram — [and] sacred [or purifying from all misgivings (pāpāpaham)311]; samprayāṇam — departure; iti — [described] in this manner [(evaṁ varnita-prakārakam); and not any other account of their departure (iti evaṁ samprayāṇam eva na tu prakārāntaram)312]; sutānām — of the sons; pāṇḍo — of Pāṇḍu; bhagavat-priyāṇām — who are very dear to Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa; [and also of Bhagavān’s departure to His own abode (bhagavat-sva-dhāma-prayāṇam)313]; labdhvā — will be endowed; bhaktim — [with] devotion; harau — to Bhagavān Hari [who steals away worldly existence abounding with the threefold miseries (tāpa-trayavat-saṁsāra-haraṇa-śīle)]; upaiti — [and] attain; siddhim — the state of perfection [(siddhi-daśām);314 or the previously described attainment of the Pāṇḍavas (pūrvoktāṁ pāṇḍavānāṁ gatim)].
Translation
One who hears with faith this account of the most auspicious and sacred departure [described] in this manner of the sons of Pāṇḍu, who are very dear to Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa, will be endowed with bhakti to Bhagavān Hari and attain the state of perfection.
