एवं चिन्तयतो जिष्णोः कृष्णपादसरोरुहम् ।
सौहार्देनातिगाढेन शान्तासीद्विमला मतिः ॥ २८ ॥
evaṁ cintayato jiṣṇoḥ kṛṣṇa-pāda-saroruham
sauhārdenātigāḍhena śāntāsīd vimalā matiḥ
Synonyms
sūtaḥ — Śrī Sūta; uvāca — said; cintayataḥ — while he meditated; evam — in this manner; pāda-saroruham — on the lotus feet; kṛṣṇa — [of] Śrī Kṛṣṇa; ati-gāḍhena — with exceedingly deep [or extremely firm (ati-dṛḍhena)160]; sauhārdena — heartfelt affection [snehena]; jiṣṇoḥ — Arjuna’s; matiḥ — mind [although afflicted by separation from Kṛṣṇa (tad-viraha-santaptāpi)161]; āsīt — became; śāntā — peaceful [free from grief (viśokā); the state of internal calm (śītalā) that transpires after the fire of separation has been extinguished by the immediate self-disclosure (sphūrti) of Kṛṣṇa arising from the continuous remembrance of Him (nirantara tac-cintana-janita-sphūrti-labdhena tena nirvāpita-dāhatvāt śītalety arthaḥ)162]; vimalā — [and] pure [free from attachment (viraktā); free from the impurity of irresoluteness (asthairya-lakṣaṇa-mālinyam api tasyā vigatam ity arthaḥ);163 or free from the specific impurities that are the symptomatic modes associated with the pain of separation ([viraha-duḥkhaḥ] tad-vṛtti-bhūtā ye kāluṣa-viśeṣās tair api rahitā)164].
Translation
Śrī Sūta said: While he meditated in this manner on the lotus feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa with exceedingly deep heartfelt affection, Arjuna’s mind became peaceful and pure.
