अस्त्राण्यमोघमहिमानि निरूपितानि नोपस्पृशुर्नृहरिदासमिवासुराणि ॥ १६ ॥
naptṛ-trigarta-śalya-saindhava-bāhlikādyaiḥ
astrāṇy amogha-mahimāni nirūpitāni
nopaspṛśur nṛhari-dāsam ivāsurāṇi
Synonyms
praṇihitam — [because I] had taken exclusive refuge [eka-śaraṇatvena kṛtam94]; yat95-doḥṣu — in whose [i.e., His] arms [bhujeṣu96]; astrāṇi — the weapons; amogha-mahimāni — of infallible power [(apratihata-mahimāni);97 or of immeasurable, inconceivable effective capacity (ameya-mahimāni acintya-sāmarthyāni)98]; nirūpitāni — discharged [prayuktāni]; guru — [by] our preceptor [Droṇācārya]; bhīṣma — Bhīṣma; karṇa — Karṇa; naptṛ — Bhūriśravā; trigarta — King Suśarmā; śalya — Śalya; saindhava — King Jayadratha; bāhlika — Bāhlika; ādyaiḥ — and others; na upaspṛśuḥ — could not touch; mā — me [mām]; iva — just as; [the weapons (astrāṇi)99]; asurāṇi — employed by the asuras [asureṇa kāritāṇi100]; [could not touch (na upaspṛśuḥ)]; nṛhari-dāsam — Prahlāda, the servant of Nṛsiṁhadeva.
Translation
Because I had taken exclusive refuge in His arms, the weapons of infallible power discharged by our preceptor [Droṇācārya], Bhīṣma, Karṇa, Bhūriśravā, King Suśarmā, Śalya, King Jayadratha, Bāhlika, and others, could not touch me, just as the weapons employed by the asuras could not touch Prahlāda, the servant of Nṛsiṁhadeva.
