गताः सप्ताधुना मासा भीमसेन तवानुजः ।
नायाति कस्य वा हेतोर्नाहं वेदेदमञ्जसा ॥ ७ ॥

gatāḥ saptādhunā māsā bhīmasena tavānujaḥ
nāyāti kasya vā hetor nāhaṁ vededam añjasā

Synonyms
bhīmasena — O Bhīmasena; sapta — seven; māsāḥ — months; gatāḥ — have elapsed [vyatikrāntāḥ25]; adhunā [api] — [yet] till now [kālātikrame’pi]; tava — your; anujaḥ — younger brother [Arjuna]; na āyāti — has still not returned; aham — I; na veda — cannot fathom; añjasā — in truth [tattvena]; kasya vā hetoḥ — what the reason might be [(kasmāt kāraṇāt); the word vā here implies “conjecture” (veti vitarke)26]; idam — [for] this.
Translation
O Bhīmasena, seven months have elapsed, yet till now, your younger brother Arjuna has still not returned. I cannot fathom in truth what the reason might be for this.
