SB 1.14.15

धूम्रा दिशः परिधयः कम्पते भूः सहाद्रिभिः ।
निर्घातश्च महांस्तात साकं च स्तनयित्नुभिः ॥ १५ ॥
dhūmrā diśaḥ paridhayaḥ kampate bhūḥ sahādribhiḥ
nirghātaś ca mahāṁs tāta sākaṁ ca stanayitnubhiḥ

Synonyms

tāta — O brother; dhūmrāḥ — the smoky [(dhūsarāḥ);45 or smoke-colored (dhūmra-varṇāḥ)46]; diśaḥ — directions; [appear (lakṣyante)47]; paridhayaḥ [iva48] — [as though] multilayered coverings [(paridhi-tūlyāḥ);49 enveloping the world, as smoke covers fire (agnim iva lokam āvṛṇvanti); or concealing within, the blazing fire that consumes the three worlds (madhye trai-lokyaṁ jvalad-agnir ity arthaḥ)50]; ca — and; bhūḥ — the earth [pṛthvī51]; saha adribhiḥ — along with its mountains; kampate — trembles; [now, in the next two and a half verses, the atmospheric omens are described (divyān āha nirghāta iti sārddha-dhvābhyām)52]; mahān — [there are] violent; nirghātaḥ — strokes of lightning [in a cloudless sky (nirabhra-vajra-pātaḥ); (nirabhra-vidyut-pātaḥ)53]; sākam — accompanied; stanayitnubhiḥ ca — by the rumblings of thunder [garjitāni taiḥ saha].

Translation

O brother, the smoky directions appear as though multilayered coverings [concealing within, the blazing fire that consumes the three worlds], and the earth along with its mountains trembles. There are violent strokes of lightning [in a cloudless sky], accompanied by the rumblings of thunder.
