कथं त्वनाथाः कृपणा वर्तेरंस्ते च मां विना ॥ ४४ ॥
kathaṁ tv anāthāḥ kṛpaṇā varteraṁs te ca māṁ vinā
Synonyms
tasmāt — therefore; aṅga — O King; jahi — give up [tyaja142]; ātmanaḥ — your mental [sva-manasaḥ143]; vaiklavyam — agitation [vyākulatām144]; kṛtam — born of; ajñāna — ignorance [rooted in the superimposition of the bodily conception upon the self (dehādy ātmādhyāsa-mūlakam)145]; [that leads you to question as follows (iti pṛcchasi)146]; katham tu — but how; te — [will] they [my aunt and uncles (pitrādayoḥ)147]; anāthāḥ — unprotected [rakṣaka-hīnāḥ]; ca — and; kṛpaṇāḥ — miserable [dīnāḥ]; varteran — survive [jīveran]; vinā — without; mām — me.
Translation
Therefore, O King, give up your mental agitation born of ignorance that leads you to question, “But how will my aunt and uncles, unprotected and miserable, survive without me?”
