Śrīmad Bhāgavata 1.12.19

brāhmaṇāḥ — the brāhmaṇas; ūcuḥ — replied; pārtha — O Yudhiṣṭhira; [this boy will be (eṣa śiśuḥ bhaviṣyati)⁴⁹]; sākṣāt — directly [not conducted through a minister (na tu mantri dvārā)]; avitā — the protector [rakṣakaḥ⁵⁰]; prajā — [of his] subjects [prajānām]; iva — just like; ikṣvākuḥ — Ikṣvāku; mānavaḥ — the son of [Vaivasvata] Manu [manor vaivasvatasya putraḥ⁵¹]; yathā — [and] like; rāmaḥ — Rāma; dāśarathiḥ — the son of Daśaratha; brahmaṇyaḥ — [he will be] devoted to the brāhmaṇas [brāhmaṇeṣu hitaḥ]; ca — and; satya-sandhaḥ — true to his word [satya-pratijñaḥ].

The brāhmaṇas replied: O Yudhiṣṭhira, this boy will be directly the protector of his subjects just like Ikṣvāku, the son of [Vaivasvata] Manu, and like Rāma, the son of Daśaratha, he will be devoted to the brāhmaṇas and true to his word.⁵²

Additionally, he connects the verb bhaviṣyati, “he will be,” to every adjectival phrase describing Parīkṣit right up to the end of verse 26. In accordance with his comments, the verb bhaviṣyati is thus added to each of the verses in this series to complete the intended sense, as will be seen in the ensuing anvayas.↩

52Beginning from this verse up to the first half of verse 25, the brāhmaṇas describe Parīkṣit’s qualities by comparing him to the foremost of illustrious kings, devotees, and devas, including even Brahmā, Śiva, and Viṣṇu. Viśvanātha Cakravartī comments that while each of the personalities mentioned are renowned for the one quality that they are said to idealize, Parīkṣit would be celebrated as possessing all of their qualities combined. This is suggested in verse 24 in which the brāhmaṇas declare that his character would conform to that of Śrī Kṛṣṇa in the nobility of being endowed with all virtuous qualities. Viśvanātha Cakravartī additionally comments that these qualities were present in Parīkṣit even at that time, when he was just a newborn child. It was simply a matter of the qualities becoming manifest at the appropriate moment.↩
