परावरेशो मनसैव विश्वं सृजत्यवत्यत्ति गुणैरसङ्गः ॥ ६ ॥
upāsito yat puruṣaḥ purāṇaḥ
parāvareśo manasaiva viśvaṁ
sṛjaty avaty atti guṇair asaṅgaḥ
Synonyms
bhavān — you; saḥ vai — the same one [who is renowned as the foremost of all enlightened beings (jñāni-śreṣṭhatvena prasiddhaḥ)21]; veda — know [jānāti]; samasta — all; guhyam — that is concealed [in the hearts of embodied beings (dehinām antargatam)22]; [how so? (kutaḥ)23]; yat — because [yasmāt]; purāṇaḥ — the primordial; puruṣaḥ — Supreme Person [the ground and source of all causes (sarva-karaṇa-bhūtaḥ)]; upāsitaḥ — has been worshiped [by you (bhavataḥ), and thus everything is known to you by His grace (atas tat-kṛpayā sarvaṁ jānāti)]; [and what is His nature? (katham bhūtaḥ);24 meaning, how is it that omniscience is obtained simply by His grace? (tat-kṛpayā’pi kathaṁ sarvajñatā), this is now stated (tatrāha parāvareśa iti)]; para-avara-īśaḥ — [He is] the Immanent Regulator of cause and effect [(kārya-kāraṇa-niyantā);25 the Indwelling Self of all beings (antaryāmī)]; sṛjati — [who] evolves; avati — sustains [rakṣati]; atti — [and] dissolves [saṁharati]; viśvam — the cosmos; manasā eva — by His mere intent [saṅkalpa-mātreṇaiva]; guṇaiḥ — through the agency of the three guṇas [guṇaiḥ kṛtvā26]; [yet doing so (athāpi)]; asaṅgaḥ — without contacting them directly [tatra na sajjate].
Translation
You, the same one [who is renowned as the foremost of all enlightened beings], know all that is concealed because you have worshiped the primordial Supreme Person (Purāṇa Puruṣa) — the Immanent Regulator of cause and effect — who evolves, sustains, and dissolves the cosmos by His mere intent through the agency of the three guṇas, yet doing so without contacting them directly.
