SB 1.18.40

विसृज्य तं च पप्रच्छ वत्स कस्माद्धि रोदिषि ।
केन वा तेऽपकृतमित्युक्तः स न्यवेदयत् ॥ ४० ॥
visṛjya taṁ ca papraccha vatsa kasmād dhi rodiṣi
kena vā te’pakṛtam ity uktaḥ sa nyavedayat

Synonyms

visṛjya ca — casting aside [or removing (parihṛtya)321]; tam — that [snake (sarpam)322]; papraccha — he asked [his son (putram)]; vatsa — my dear boy; kasmāt hi — why [for what reason (kasmād hetoḥ)]; [are you (tvam)]; rodiṣi — crying [rodanaṁ karoṣi]; kena vā — by whom; apakṛtam — has harm been inflicted [apakāraḥ kṛtaḥ323]; te — upon you [tava]; uktaḥ — being questioned [pṛṣṭaḥ324]; iti — in this manner [ittham]; saḥ — the boy [bālakaḥ]; nyavedayat — reported [kathayāmāsa]; [the entire proceeding (sarva-vṛtam)].

Translation

Casting the snake aside, he asked his son, “My dear boy, why are you crying? Who has harmed you?” Being questioned in this manner, the boy reported the entire proceeding.
