SB 1.17.28

इति धर्मं महीं चैव सान्त्वयित्वा महारथः ।
निशातमाददे खड्गं कलयेऽधर्महेतवे ॥ २८ ॥
iti dharmaṁ mahīṁ caiva sāntvayitvā mahā-rathaḥ
niśātam ādade khaḍgaṁ kalaye’dharma-hetave

Synonyms

sāntvayitvā — having comforted; dharmam — Dharma; ca eva — and; mahīm — the Earth goddess; iti — in this manner [evam164]; mahā-rathaḥ — the mighty warrior [Parīkṣit]; ādade — raised [gṛhītavān]; niśātam — [his] sharp [tīkṣṇam]; khaḍgam — sword; kalaye — toward Kali [to kill him (taṁ hantum ity arthaḥ)165]; hetave — the cause; adharma — [of] unrighteousness [the last two words together implying the reason why it would indeed be just to kill him (tad-vadham evocitam iti sūcayaṁs tatra hetum āha—adharma-hetave iti)].

Translation

Having comforted Dharma and the Earth goddess in this manner, the mighty warrior Parīkṣit raised his sharp sword toward Kali, the cause of unrighteousness.
