पश्यन्ति नित्यं यदनुग्रहेषितं स्मितावलोकं स्वपतिं स्म यत्प्रजाः ॥ २७ ॥
kuśasthalī puṇya-yaśas-karī bhuvaḥ
paśyanti nityaṁ yad anugraheṣitaṁ
smitāvalokaṁ sva-patiṁ sma yat-prajāḥ
Synonyms
aho bata — how wondrous [expressing extreme astonishment (atyāścaryam)84]; kuśasthalī — Dvārakā; tiraskarī — belittles [paribhava-kartrī]; svaḥ-yaśasaḥ — the fame of heaven [which is so magnificent (yat yaśaḥ utkṛṣṭaḥ)]; puṇya-yaśas-karī — [and] establishes the sacred fame; bhuvaḥ — of the earth; yat — because [yataḥ]; yat-prajāḥ — its residents [yatratyāḥ sarvāḥ prajāḥ]; nityam — constantly; paśyanti sma — behold; sva-patim — their Master [the Lord of their very innermost selves (svasyātmanaḥ patim), Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and not merely the Lord of their bodies, like a biological father (na tu pitrādi vat deha-mātra patim)]; smita-avalokam — casting His smiling glances [yat smita-pūrvāvalokam]; anugraha-iṣitam — [and] bestowing His grace upon them [svānugraheṇa iṣitaṁ preṣitam].
Translation
How wondrous! This city of Dvārakā belittles the fame of heaven and establishes the sacred fame of the earth because its residents constantly behold their Master casting His smiling glances and bestowing His grace upon them.
