आसीना दीर्घसत्रेण कथायां सक्षणा हरेः ॥ २१ ॥
āsīnā dīrgha-satreṇa kathāyāṁ sakṣaṇā hareḥ
Synonyms
ājñāya — having realized [or recognized (ālakṣya)140]; kalim — [that] Kaliyuga; āgatam — has arrived [and being apprehensive thereof (tad-bhiyā)141]; vayam — we; āsīnāḥ — are seated [upaviṣṭāḥ]; asmin — in this; kṣetre — holy place; vaiṣṇave — intent on attaining the feet or the abode of Viṣṇu [(viṣṇu-padaṁ ganta-kāmāḥ);142 or in this sacred place related to Viṣṇu, known as the Naimiṣa Forest (viṣṇoḥ sambandhini tat-sānnidhyavati kṣetre naimiṣākhye)]; dīrgha-satreṇa — by means of a long-enduring sacrifice [lasting a thousand years (sahasra-vatsara-paryantena)]; [and thus]; sa-kṣaṇāḥ — we have ample time [or opportunity (labdhāvasarāḥ)143]; kathāyām — in [i.e., for] the stories [to hear the stories (kathā-śravaṇārtham)]; hareḥ — of Hari [which dispel the defects of Kali (kali-kṛta-doṣa-harasya)].
Translation
Having realized that Kaliyuga has arrived, we are seated in this holy place, intent on attaining the abode of Viṣṇu by means of a long-enduring sacrifice (satra), and thus we have ample time to hear the stories of Bhagavān Hari [Kṛṣṇa-kathā].
